The second is to fight through the mud at Chasiv Yar, into house to house fighting in Kostyantinivka and another uphill battle to Kramatorsk. Again, Ukraine has dug into the fields and the area bristles with IFVs and artillery.
Kramatorsk has an airfield which has served as headquarters to Ukraine’s army in the Donbas since 2014, as well as a fast rail link to Kyiv. To get there now the Russians have three options IF they can break through Bakhmut:
